The Chepe Train

The Best Section Of The Chepe Train Line
Is Included In All Published Trip Packages

The Chihuahua al Pacifico (Chepe) railroad is the only railroad that has been international in its vision since its inception. This engineering marvel took almost 90 years and 90 million dollars to complete. The first Mexican train to traverse the complete route was in 1961. The route goes through 5 climate zones from sea level to 8,000 feet in elevation.

The Chepe engineering feats along the line include 37 bridges and 86 tunnels on the full route.  The first class train service has 12 air-conditioned passenger cars and an excellently equipped kitchen serves delicious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners daily. The deluxe lounge car has unfortunately been discontinued.

When traveling on any standard, logistically optimized Amigo Trails package, you'll also have Regional Class train tickets included on the best part of the train line, which is between El Fuerte and Divisadero.

Latest Train Updates

As of January 11th, 2020 we have more Chepe changes to look forward to. Ugh! It seems the train is never meant to have a reasonable schedule, nor to keep anything conveniently permanent.

The Chepe Express will now only run, ridiculous hours again, from Los Mochis to Creel, with stops only in El Fuerte, Bahuichivo and Divisadero, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1pm to 10:45pm .  This of course means that if you pay the higher prices to ride the Express train from Los Mochis to Creel, you will be traveling during the dark, making the journey pointless.

The return journey from Creel back to Los Mochis is now on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 7:30am to 5:10pm. On Saturdays, it runs an express service from Creel to Divisadero and back to Creel, though one doesn't really need to take that train for anything as the highway is there and that section should be done via vehicle as part of a Divisadero Tour. Timing for that is 8:30am from Creel, arriving 10am Divisadero and departing Divisadero at 3pm, arriving back in Creel at 4:30pm.

The Chepe Express also has 3 classes now. The old Executive class is now called the 1st class. The Executive class is now the 2nd class and there is a new Tourist class that is 3rd class, all on the same train, in different cars. To see pricing, visit the Chepe website.

1st class privileges: holds 96 people, food is included in the Urike Dome restaurant car, has access to the bar and the private terrace exclusive to this class.

Executive class privileges: holds 240 people, access to Urike Dome restaurant car (order off menu - not included), access to bar car.

Tourist class privileges: holds 192 people, access to a generic restaurant car.

Onto the Regional train, which is now bumped to 4th class. It runs from Los Mochis to Chihuahua on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 6am to 9:30pm. From Chihuahua to Los Mochis it runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays from 6am to 9:30pm.

No Regional trains on Fridays.
