On this all encompassing trip through the majestic Copper Canyon, you'll find yourself immersed into a culture and a land that is still considered rural and mostly untamed. You'll get to experience everything from kayaking down the El Fuerte River, hiking to old petroglyphs in the 'Secret Forest', riding the Chepe Train and traveling to the bottom of Copper and Batopilas Canyons. You'll see the enigmatic Raramuri Indians all along the way and visit an old Silver Mining town that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time.

Itinerary

Day 1: El Fuerte
Private transfer from Los Mochis Airport to El Fuerte, a colonial town just 1 hour away. Hotel of your choice (View Hotel Options).
Day 2: El Fuerte
Morning guided Kayak Tour or Guided River Tour down El Fuerte River with hike to petroglyphs. Same hotel again.
Day 3: Cerocahui
Transfer to train station in El Fuerte. 1st class Chepe train tickets from El Fuerte to Bahuichivo train station. Transfer from station to Cerocahui hotel of your choice (View Hotel Options). Afternoon guided tour to Cerro Gallegos Overlook to see Urique Canyon. Visit to Cerocahui Mission and Raramuri girls boarding school in Cerocahui.
Lunch and dinner included at hotel.
Day 4: Posada Barrancas
Morning free to do an optional activity such as hiking to Cerocahui Waterfall or horseback riding. Transfer from Cerocahui to Bahuichivo station. 1st class Chepe train tickets from Bahuichivo to Posada Barrancas train station. Transfer to Hotel Mirador on the rim of the canyon. Afternoon free to enjoy the views!

Day 5: Divisadero/Creel
Morning Divisadero Area Tour to visit all the overlooks, including the seldom seen Oteros Canyon overlook, and an opportunity to ride the Cable Car into the canyon. Ground transfer from Divisadero to Creel, about one hour away, and drop off at your hotel. Afternoon free to do an optional activity or just relax and do some shopping in town.

Day 6: Creel
Full day free in the alpine village of Creel for any optional activities you may care to do. Horseback riding and hiking are available or you may wish to do a tour to Recowata Hot Springs, rent a bike/scooter/ATV or just relax and enjoy the ambiance of this mountain village in the middle of the Copper Canyon.
Day 7: Batopilas
Full day tour to Batopilas today with many stops en route including;
- Valley of the Mushrooms, Frogs and Monks
- Lake Arareko
- San Ignacio Mission
- Cusarare Waterfall (you may hike to this waterfall on day 9 if you prefer)
- Cusarare Mission
- Loyola Museum
- Basihuare Canyon
- Copper Canyon
- Batopilas Canyon
A picnic lunch of your choice (View Picnic Options) is included along the way today and you'll be dropped off in Batopilas at the end of the day to your hotel of choice (View Hotel Options).

Day 8: Batopilas
Full day in Batopilas. You'll visit the Lost Cathedral of Satevo, the ruins of Hacienda San Miguel and may choose to do a hike along the old aqueduct to see the tropical birds that nest there. Same hotel again.
Day 9: Cusarare
Returning towards Creel today, you'll stop in Cusarare for a night at the specialty hotel, Sierra Lodge. This hotel is rustic in nature but comfortable in appointment. It includes all meals and the Raramuri Indians of the Cusarare Ejido live and work there so you'll get an up close and personal view of them without being pushy. You may hike to Cusarare Waterfall today from the hotel.

Day 10: Chihuahua
Transfer from Cusarare to Chihuahua City this morning with stop to visit the Mennonite Community of Cuauhtemoc if desired with drop off at your hotel in Chihuahua City. Afternoon guided City Tour of Chihuahua.

Day 11: Fly home
Take a taxi to the airport today when you are ready to catch your flight out.

Some Extra Information About This Trip
1.) Our Copper Canyon Tempest Package needs a min. of 2 ppl.
2.) This trip is best done from Los Mochis towards Chihuahua (East) but it can be done from Chihuahua towards Los Mochis (West) with a few adjustments. Please email us for more information about doing the trip in reverse.
3.) All you need to do is sort out your flights into the arrival city and out of the departure city and we'll do the rest.
4.) This trip can be done as described as Independent or Fully Guided, however you choose.See below for explanations on what these two terms mean.
- Independent basically means we will organize your hotels, tours, transfers and train tickets so that you are maximizing your time here in the canyons but you will not be escorted. Guides will only accompany you on tours or transfers. Cost of trip price will only be affected by the hotels and picnics you choose.
- Fully Guided means you'll have an expert, multilingual guide with you from the start of your trip to the finish. These guides are experts in history, culture, flora and fauna and will give you in-depth information about not only the Copper Canyon but Mexico overall. Cost of overall trip price will go up about $2,200USD to do it Fully Guided, regardless of number of people on the trip. Add in more friends and family to make your per person price drop and make it even more affordable.
5.) Your trip is completely private so you can choose your own pace and do a relaxed, vehicle-supported journey or you can get out and hike along the way in many places if you choose to.
6.)
