This hike is 4 nights and includes 2 nights of camping and 2 nights in hotels. One
night will be spent in Cerocahui at the beginning of the hike and the last night will
be a hotel in Batopilas. You'll get yourself to the starting point at the hotel in
Cerocahui and you'll be on your own on Day 5 to do as you please for the rest of

Hike across the mountain that separates Batopilas mining town from the old
mining village of Urique. You'll go from deep in Urique Canyon, up over the
mountains and down into Batopilas Canyon. The bottom of both of these canyons
is sub tropical, but you'll start out and eventually exit into the high Sierra.

Urique to Batopilas Hike
You'll get yourself to Bahuichivo train station by taking either the train from
Chihuahua or Los Mochis today. Once there, your trip begins. Your host from
the San Isidro Lodge in Cerocahui will meet you at the train station and take
you on a tour of the tiny ancient village of Cerocahui. Afterwards, you'll be
driven up to the hotel, high above the village for the night. Once here, you'll
meet your English speaking hike coordinator and discuss the trip. Dinner is
served here along with tasty Margarita's under the stars.

Included on hike is: One English speaking translator/hike coordinator, one
Raramuri guide, burros for carrying camping gear, packs, food and cooking
equipment, all food and snacks during hike, meals at San Isidro Lodge,
transfer from train station from Bahuichivo to San Isidro Lodge, one night
lodging at San Isidro Lodge, one night lodging at Riverside Lodge Hotel.
Not included: transportation to Bahuichivo or from Batopilas, tips for guides
or hotel rooms, your personal sleeping bag and pad.
Cost for this hike is based upon a 4 person minimum and must have a
minimum of 4 persons to operate or you may pay it's equal if you are less
than 4 persons.

Price is based upon double occupancy. Add $150US for a single room in
hotels but single occupancy is not permitted while camping unless you bring
your own tent.
Today you'll have breakfast early and be transported to the bottom of Urique
Canyon to begin your hike. You'll meet your Raramuri hiking guide in Urique,
pack up the burros and set off. You'll head up the mountain and out of Urique
Canyon and up to Alisos, a small ranchito near the top of the mountain. You'll
camp here for the night. Today's hike will take about 6 - 8 hours depending
upon your skill level and speed.
Day 3: (B)(L)(D)
After breakfast you'll pack up and hike across the top of the mesa to Cerro
Colorado. Today's hike will take about 6 - 8 hours, depending upon your
speed. You'll camp here for the night.
Today you'll hike on out to the bottom of Batopilas Canyon and into Batopilas
town. You'll spend the morning hiking in to Batopilas today and it will take
about 6 hours at a moderate speed, faster if you have the energy. You'll
check into your beautiful old boutique hotel, The Riverside Lodge, and relax
for the rest of the day. You may walk out to visit the Lost Cathedral of Satevo
today or perhaps a visit to the ruins of Hacienda San Miguel across the river.
There is a lovely old aqua duct to see as well where you'll find a plethora of
fantastic birds such as the Trogan, Mot Mot and Military Macaw.
