Ultimate Adventure
Today you guide will meet you for breakfast and then you'll be off for a 1/2
day of Kayaking down the El Fuerte River. This is a Class I river in general but
it does provide a few Class 2-3 rapids at certain points along the way. You'll
kayak for about 3.5 hours today with your River Guide, admiring the birds, the
landscape and enjoying the freedom that only kayaking can give you as you
float along the banks of 'The Secret Forest'. There will be a stop-over at
Cerro de la Mascara to have a bit of a hike and see the petro glyphs en route.
Cold drinks and ride back to town will be waiting for you at the end of the line.
So you can have a bit of time to explore the colonial town of El Fuerte, we'll
send you out to have lunch on your own after you return from the river. Your
guide will point you towards some great places to eat. Afterwards, your
guide will meet back up with you for a historic guided walking tour of the
downtown area. Dinner will be arranged by your guide tonight.
Day 1: (D)
Your trip starts out from the airport in Los Mochis. You'll be met at the gate by
your driver and will be whisked away to the colonial town of El Fuerte, just 1.5
hours away. **
You'll settle into your lovely hotel and meet your Bilingual Guide who will be
with you for the remainder of the trip. Dinner will be arranged by your guide to
Welcome you on this great Adventure.
Day 2: (B)(D)
Day 3: (B)(L)(D)
Breakfast first, then you are off to visit the old town of Urique at the bottom of
Urique Canyon. This is an all day tour with lunch served at the bottom of the
canyon. You'll see the viewpoints from above and then venture down the
winding dirt road to the bottom of the canyon to the subtropical village of
Urique. You'll also have the chance to do a bit of hiking from a section of the
road on into Urique down the mountainside if you wish. Lunch is served in
Urique as a regional "discada". This is basically a Mexican style stir-fry with
lots of meats and veggies. You'll be eating "al fresco" in the countryside
while your food is cooked nearby for you in a typical Mexican style using a
disc type wok. Afterwards, you'll return to your hotel in Cerocahui for
margarita's and to watch a special dance by a local Raramuri. Dinner is
served afterwards and then you can relax by the campfire and watch the
stars.
Day 4: (B)(L)(D)
After breakfast, you'll be taken to the train station to catch your 1pm train to
Creel. Lunch will be served on the train. You'll be picked up at the station and
driven 30 minutes outside of Creel to an area called Cusarare. Here you'll
check into your lovely rustic hotel in the woods. There is no electricity here,
which adds to the charm of it. All rooms have a pot bellied stove or fireplace
and the Raramuri Indians work here so you will get to see them up close and
without being intrusive. Your guide will hike you to the Cusarare Waterfall
tonight before dinner.
Today you are off to Batopilas. You'll meet your English speaking Batopilas
guide and start out after breakfast by driving over to the Cusarare Village to
have a look at the Mission and Loyola Museum. Afterwards, you'll be driven
down the winding paved road through Basihuare Canyon and right through
the middle of the Copper Canyon. There will be several stops en route for
photo taking. Eventually you'll turn onto a dirt road that will take you the rest
of the way into Batopilas. You are now entering Batopilas Canyon. You'll stop
for a traditional discada lunch en route that includes wine/beer as well as
juices, soft drinks and water. A table is set up in the woods with tablecloth,
china and crystal and will be served with a bit more flare than your Urique
discada lunch. You'll be encouraged to walk on ahead after eating to work off
a few calories while the staff clean up. They'll then pick you up and continue
the trip. This road is quite famous now and people come from all over the
world to bicycle down it. It does a series of fantastic switchbacks and will
take you from over 7,000 ft. to just 1,800 ft above sea level in Batopilas town.
You will see a great change in the flora as you descend and your guide will
point out all the different types of pine, oak and cacti as you go. Batopilas is
sub-tropical like Urique village so it will be quite hot. Sleep at the Riverside
Lodge tonight. This was once a private Hacienda that has been turned into a
charming boutique hotel. It is filled with antiques such as claw foot bathtubs
and features murals and private gardens. It is quite a treat in itself just to
stay here. Your guide will announce a time to meet for dinner and then take
you over to one of the nearby restaurants where you'll have a reservation.
Day 5: (B)(L)(D)
Day 6: (B)(L)(D)

the entire way. The choice is yours. Your guide will explain the history of the
area for you as you visit this lovely cathedral. Afterwards, you'll be returned
to Batopilas where you can have lunch on your own and explore the area by
yourself. Later on, you'll be taken to the ruins of Hacienda San Miguel and for
those of you who like to bird, an expedition along the underside of the old
aqua duct will be offered so you can see some exquisite birds that live in the
area and are attracted to the water such as; Trogan, Squirrel Cuckoo, Mot
Mot and the Military Macaw. Dinner will be all together again this evening with
a special surprise for you, afterwards, back at the hotel.

served at the hotel and the rest of the day is free for you to relax, hike a bit
more on your own, or just enjoy the views. Dinner is at your hotel tonight.
