The Copper Canyon Crossing is just what it's name depicts. This hike takes 5
nights of camping and gives you 2 nights hotel. You'll start out with 1 night at the
cozy Sierra Lodge Hotel, nestled in the woods of the Cusarare area, then you'll
camp out for 5 nights as you cross through the Copper Canyon and finally end up
in Divisadero for a night at the famous Mirador Hotel that hangs off the cliff's edge.
Your food, cooking equipment, backpacks etc...are all carried by burros or
Raramuri runners (when the trails get to steep for the burros). You'll have a
Raramuri guide, cook, several arrieros and an English speaking guide to give you
in depth information on your hike.
This hike is rated as strenuous and one must be in excellent physical condition to
attempt it.

Copper Canyon Crossing Hike
You'll be picked up at the train station in Creel today and be transferred to the
Sierra Lodge Hotel in Cusarare, about 1/2 hour away. Today you should warm
up for your hike with a gentle walk to the Cusarare Waterfall, just a 40 minute
walk in each direction from the hotel. You may also visit the village of
Cusarare, just 3kms from the hotel, where you'll find the Loyola Musuem and
Cusarare Mission. All meals are served here and be sure not to get to carried
away with the complimentary margarita's before dinner! Your English
speaking guide will meet you tonight for dinner to discuss the trip and
answer any questions you may have.

Day 2: Camping Day 1 (B)(L)(D)
Today you'll start your hike and head off into the wild. You'll hike about 4-5
hours today to the bottom of a small canyon where you'll find Basirecota Hot
Springs. Camp here tonight.
Included: One night at the Sierra Lodge Hotel, transfer from train station in
Creel to Sierra Lodge Hotel, all meals where indicated (B)(L)(D), English
speaking guide, Raramuri guide, camping food, snacks and water, camping
cook, burros, all camping equipment (except sleeping bag and pad), one
night a the Mirador Hotel, transfer to train station from Mirador Hotel on Day 8.
Not included: Transportation to Creel or from the Mirador Hotel in Divisadero,
tips of any kind or your personal gear such as sleeping bag and pad.
Cost for this hike is based upon a 4 person minimum and must have a
minimum of 4 persons to operate or you may pay it's equal if you are less
than 4 persons.
Cost for this trip is $1,232.50US per person.

Ascend the canyon again today and hike around the top today. Eventually
you'll descend once again into a small canyon called San Luis de Majimachi
to campout. You'll find here a fantastic Orange tree grove on the slope. This
area is called Naranjo. About 7-8 hours hiking today.
Your hike continues today with a nice half day hike of about 5 hours. You
should arrive in the vicinity of Rehuerachi on the mesa.
Hike today across the mesa and down to the river again to camp at the
bottom of Tararecua Canyon. About 7 hours today.
Today is a full day in Tararecua Canyon. You'll sleep in the same place tonight
in order to relax a bit. There's a hot springs nearby and a small waterfall to
enjoy.
Today you're hiking out of the canyon so it will be up, up, up all..day...long. It
will take you about 7 hours to get to the mesa. We'll pick you up at the top in
Divisadero at the parking area of the Divisadero Hotel. Whew! it's over and
you've done A LOT!!! Check in to Hotel Mirador, open the champagne and
relax those poor feet.
Day 7: Hike out today (B)(L)(D)
After breakfast, served at your hotel, you're on your own. You can take the
train to Los Mochis or onto Chihuahua if you prefer, or spend a night in the
Creel area first before you leave. Please let us know if you would like help in
booking your hotel tonight, no matter where you go, or if you'd like to extend
your package for several more days. We highly suggest tonight be spent in
Chihuahua at the Holiday Inn for a bit of pampering after your hike. There is a
wonderful jacuzzi and steam room that will help alleviate your tired muscles.
